Producer Margaret South recently announced that "Pay Attention: ADHD in Hollywood, On the Rocks with a Twist," Frank South's story of a New York waiter and performance artist who is catapulted into fast track Hollywood TV writing unwittingly unleashing his Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Hypomania, Alcoholism, and Issues with Authority, will have its Mainland debut at The Other Space at Santa Monica Playhouse opening Saturday, May 2nd, 2009.

Frank South left the high-pressure world of Hollywood for Hawaii to write and produce Baywatch Hawaii and he never came back. But before he left Frank wrote for and/or produced some of the most watched TV series in the 90s among them: Melrose Place, Cagney & Lacey, Fame, Hill Street Blues and General Hospital. In nearly two non-stop hours of intense hilarity and horror, South careens from a high school talent show, to mentorship with Robert Altman, to the deadly world of network television.

“Pay Attention, Frank South's descent into the Hollywood vortex, is both hilarious and heartbreaking, a raw and riotous ride.  Fortunately, Frank has ADHD to tide him through!  Anyone who's dreamed of fame and fortune finding them should see this show.  It's thoroughly authentic theater. “- Andre and Maria Jacquemetton (Producers Mad Men)

Developed by Margaret South and Mark Travis and directed by Mark Travis “Pay Attention” premiered in Hawaii in 2008 to critical acclaim.  “Fast pace... Comic... Intriguing... South is unfailingly disarming, ingratiating, charming and full of energy," said Joseph T. Rozmiarek of the Honolulu Advertiser.

Frank South is a writer, performer, and actor. His one-act plays, 2 by South, were directed by Robert Altman, premiered at The Los Angeles Actor’s Theater, opened in New York, Off-Broadway and then were filmed by Altman for ABC Arts. Frank and his wife, Margaret, moved to Hawaii with their two children in 2000 where he teaches creative writing to at-risk youth and continues to write and perform new work. Teaming with Margaret and Mark Travis again, he is presently developing his new solo show about acting sexual identity and acting on the fringe in the 70’s: “Straight Man.”

Director Mark Travis is perhaps best known for the solo shows that he has developed and directed over the past 15 years. Notably: Time Flies When You're Alive, A Bronx Tale, Undressing New Jersey, Insomnia, Something In His Genes, The Dangerous Lure of High Heels, Cabin Fever, What Does The Sun Sound Like?, They Call Me Mr. Fry, Hip Bones and Cool Whip, Almost Made, Walking Back to Brooklyn, and Fornicationally Challenged. Travis has been credited in the LA Times with having created a 'new theater genre'. His first book on film directing, The Director's Journey became an instant best-seller (L.A. Times) and was followed by Directing Feature Films which is currently required reading by hundreds of film schools worldwide.

Producer Margaret South has developed television and feature film projects for Disney, Fox and Tri-Star Studios, HBO, ABC, and NBC. She produced several feature films, including the beloved Beaches, starring Bette Midler. She currently teaches The Art of Story, a master writing classes, and consults with writers on novels, memoirs and screenplays. Margaret is the co-creator and developer, along with her husband, of the exciting new curriculum for children, called Kids Talk Story, now being offered in school across Hawai'i and nationwide.
