A new series of contemporary one-act play anthologies has officially launched with the publication of The Extravaganza One Act Fest 2024 and The Extravaganza One Act Fest 2025, now available in print and digital formats through all major retailers.

The collections feature original short-form plays developed through the Extravaganza Festival, a collaborative theater initiative in Los Angeles focused on new work. Under the direction of Wolfgang Bodison, known for his role in A Few Good Men, the festival brings together actors, writers, and directors to workshop and stage original one-act plays over the course of an intensive rehearsal and performance process.

Unlike traditional submission-based anthologies, the plays included in the Extravaganza collections are selected in early draft form based on concept and potential, then developed in rehearsal. Writers collaborate closely with actors and directors as the pieces evolve, culminating in staged performances presented over multiple weekends. Following the festival, a selection of the most fully realized works is chosen for publication.

The result is a pair of volumes that reflect not only a large range of contemporary voices, but also the immediacy and practicality of plays shaped in performance. The collections emphasize actor-driven material, with a focus on roles, relationships, and staging that translate effectively from page to stage.

At a time when accessible, performance-ready one-act plays can be difficult to find, The Extravaganza Fest series aims to provide new material for actors, directors, and theater-makers seeking original work that is both flexible and grounded in live performance.

Both volumes are now available via major retailers. A launch event celebrating the release of the books is scheduled for May 13, details can be found on Eventbrite.
