Collaborative Artists Ensemble Presents the West Coast Premiere of IN THE BALANCE

By:

Ghosts and guilt, death and terror: In the Balance opens for its West Coast premiere engagement at Studio/Stage on November 11 2016.

Matt, a college professor, shares a cliffside home in Big Sur overlooking the ocean with his wife, Cass, a former ballerina, and their new baby, Anne. Sounds idyllic, but for one thing: The joint is haunted. How else to explain the mishaps and sudden shatterings? When Matt's old college buddy Kostya shows up with his young girlfriend from Mexico City, Alicia, hidden sins are revealed; a violent, bloody death from the past comes back to haunt them; and ghosts come out to possess the living and play out a wicked game.

Will the five occupants of the house on the cliff survive?

A. David Redish is the playwright. His background gives him a unique perspective on otherwise unexplained human phenomena. He is the Distinguished McKnight University Professor of Neuroscience at the University of Minnesota. His books include The Mind Within the Brain and Beyond the Cognitive Map. Two earlier plays include Beth and Kalypso, both produced by Edward Albee, who also directed Kalypso. Dr. Redish obtained his Ph.D. at Carnegie Mellon University.

Steve Jarrard directs the new production of In The Balance. The managing director of Collaborative Artists Ensemble, his directing credits include The Food Chain, How I Learned to Drive, Eleemosynary, The Square Root of Wonderful, Lucia Mad, Through a Glass Darkly, Blood Relations, A Strange Disappearance of Bees and more.
