Annie Yee, award-winning choreographer and community activist, will add Chinese movement and dance to Henry Ong's epic six-hour stage adaptation of the Chinese beloved classic, "Dream of the Red Chamber."

"Dream," based on Ts'ao Hsueh Ch'in's romance novel, is a sprawling narrative that interweaves realism and surrealism, explores the decline of the fortunes of the noble Chia clan during the early Ching dynasty through a tale of two cousins.

The play will be performed various locations in the Edward Vincent Jr Park including the Amphitheater and the Agee Playhouse (714 Warren Lane, Inglewood, CA). The project is made possible by the City of Inglewood and its Growing Artists Performed Projects (IGAPP) Initiative that exposes Inglewood audiences to the practices of contemporary artists and supports the work and growth of artists.

"I'm thrilled to be working with playwright Henry Ong, and to be involved in this massive project," said Yee. "It is so wonderful to share and teach Chinese movement and choreography to the diverse cast."

Yee's last project was choreographer for "The Golden Dragon" at the Theater at Boston Court, directed by Michael Michetti, where she earned a Scenie Award and was an Ovation and BroadwayWorld L.A. nominee for Best Choreography. Prior to that, she was the Chinese dance consultant for "Pearl" at the Lincoln Center, directed and choreographed by Daniel Ezralow. She also choreographed "Made in Bangkok" at the Mark Taper Forum, directed by Robert Egan, and "Badges" at Los Angeles Theater Center, directed by Luis Valdez. Annie is an Assistant Professor of Dance Specialties at East Los Angeles College. She was also a Laker Girl during the Showtime Era for three years. A community activist, she is President of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance. She was recently honored with a "2017 Women of Achievement Award," presented by Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez, for her accomplishments in Arts & Entertainment in the San Gabriel Valley.
