Celebration Theatre to Present HUSBAND MATERIAL as Part of Celebrating New Works Series

By:

Celebration Theatre presents as part of its New Works Reading Series, HUSBAND MATERIAL by Steven Lee, directed by David Tran and performing one night only on Tuesday, March 16 at 7:30pm at the West Hollywood City Chambers, 625 N. San Vicente in West Hollywood.

When Lionel visits his partner of ten years, Jim-- in his childhood hometown-- the celebration grows complicated. Attending a party, a blizzard strands the guests and tensions inside bubble to the surface. A mysterious guest, screen name TotalTopNine, crashes the party... in more ways than one. This racially diverse group of lesbian, gay, transgender, bisexual, and questioning individuals are all forced to deal with each other--whether they like it or not. In Husband Material: A Comedy of No Manners, our heroes grapple with big questions: What is husband material? Who is husband material? Who are we in this diverse community of LGBTQ's, anyway?

STEVEN LEE (Playwright) Born in Washington D.C and raised in California. The mixture of East coast Presbyterian rigid values and protocol, mixed with the progressiveness of his youth later spent in seventies L.A., continually knit and weave into the conflicted themes in his work. Majoring in English at Cal State University in Northridge, California fine-tuned the themes-- and the skills to present those themes-- in the writing classes there. But joining a playwriting workshop at the Gay and Lesbian Center in West Hollywood caused Steven to focus mainly on theatre. It is there he wrote, produced, and directed a staged reading of his first full-length play, Diva Joan, a comedy. After that a semi-autobiographical play called, Chariot, was written and produced at the Stella Adler Theatre in Hollywood. Steven has also done readings at The Second City Theatre in Hollywood. Steven currently resides in North Hollywood, California.

DAVID TRAN (Director) David is a graduate of the Orange County High School of the Arts and has a BA in Advertising from CSUF. He is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA and has worked on various projects for film, TV and commercials. Some of his stage highlights include: Bent (Rudy), Dog Sees God (Beethoven) and Corpus Christi (Thomas). Husband Material is David's first venture into directing for Celebration Theatre, where he's been a company member for three years. He is beyond thrilled to be a part of this creative journey working alongside the writer of this play, Steven Lee, as well as this talented group of actors.

The cast of HUSBAND MATERIAL will feature: Michael Taylor Gray, Cassandra Braden, Michael Patrick Ferman, Kevin Carranza, Irene Choi, Hector S. Quintana and Nathan Mohebbi.

Admission is free... with donations gratefully accepted. Celebrating New Works is produced by Celebration Theatre's Literary Director Nathan Frizzell. Celebration Theatre is headed by its Co-Artistic Directors Michael Matthews and Michael A. Shepperd, along with its Executive Director Michael C. Kricfalusi.
