The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) is pleased to present C.O.L.A. Nights, a selection of performances and readings on Friday, June 15 and Saturday June 16, 2018 from 8 -10 p.m. taking place at Grand Performances (California Plaza, 350 South Grand Avenue). The compelling series of evening events feature the smart and cutting word play of performance artist Kristina Wong in Running for Public Office, the voice music of Peter Harris' magnetic poetry paired with the original music of Ed Barguiarena to create TRANCE, and d. Sabela grimes' articulation of the intersections of our identities through dance.

Los Angeles has always been a hotbed for diverse artistic talent and these literary and performing artists represent three of the 14 artists, who were awarded C.O.L.A. Fellows in the design/visual arts, literary arts* and performing arts** this year, each receiving grants of $10,000 each to create new multi-media artworks for both the upcoming Grand Performances events as well as an expansive exhibition on view through June 24 at DCA's Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park (4800 Hollywood Boulevard). With LA being one of the few remaining municipalities in the country that funds significant grants to individual artists, this year's exhibition features artists who have responded to today's turbulent social and political climate in the creation of their new works.
