The Bumper Jacksons bring an exhilarating repertoire of modern American roots music to the Napa Valley with a style that features elements of New Orleans swing, roots, bluegrass, and hot jazz. An American roots project that pushes the boundaries of country and traditional jazz, Bumper Jacksons pull together early American sonic traditions into a modern musical experience. This group is a virtuosic juggling act pulled off by performers at the top of their game, and they will be performing at the Lincoln Theater on Friday, February 23rd at 7pm.
Honored as the region's 2015 "Artist of the Year" and "Best Folk Band" from 2013-2015 at the Washington Area Music Awards, the Bumper Jacksons are playfully creative with their originals and re-imagining roots music with both power and tenderness. Their music is hot and sweet, painting America's story from the streets of New Orleans to the hollers of the Appalachian mountains and their vibrant, beloved cities of Baltimore and Washington, DC.
Unafraid to scrap together new sounds from forgotten 78's, the Bumper Jacksons boldly and elegantly balance paying homage to the traditions while fashioning their own unique, DIY style. The plaintive touch of pedal steel and trombone round out the creative original tunes and re-imagined roots sounds. It's a band that defies a single definitive description while dropping audiences into the center of a musical party where everyone is invited.
Together, Chris and Jess Eliot form the core of the Bumper Jacksons. Their initial meeting fueled a riotous impromptu jam on the lawn of a radical bike house in Washington, DC. Fellow musicians Alex Lacquement, Dan Samuels, Dave Hadley and Brian Priebe round out the group's eclectic sound and together they create music that bursts at the seams with some of the richest threads of old America. Their music will make you get up and dance!
