Broadway's Carol Woods to Perform at Iridium Next Week
ScoBar Entertainment is proud to present Broadway powerhouse & legend, CAROL WOODS, in Carol Woods - An Evening of Soul & Song, for one performance only, Tuesday, February 16 at 8pm at Iridium.
A native New Yorker, Carol learned to sing in the church where her grandfather was the Bishop. She became a nurse, but found out that "nurses didn't make anything back then, so I became a postal worker & then a friend goaded me into auditioning for a nightclub owner." The rest, as we say, is history! Between 1965-70, she sang with a group called Carol Woods & the Executives, which led to the UK-based label Ember Record & a number of disco & soul-themed recordings, which can be found on her re-issued CD, Carol Woods: Out of the Woods.
After several years working in Europe, Carol returned to the states & performed on Broadway, in films & on TV. She was Mama Morton in Chicago & starred in The Full Monty, One Mo' Time, Steppin' Out, Follies, Smokey Joe's Café, The Goodbye Girl & Best Little Whorehouse. On TV, she has appeared on "The Practice," "Law & Order," "Third Watch" & most recently, "The Good Wife." Her rendition of The Beatles "Let It Be" from Julie Taymor's 2007 film Across the Universe, became a hit, which she performed at the 5oth Grammy Awards.
Carol has performed in concert halls & nightclubs from New York to London to Tokyo to Russia. Her solo Carnegie Hall concert, An Evening with Carol Woods & her cabaret show, From Blues to Broadway, have received rave reviews. She is currently working on her newest project, One Hour with You: The Music of Richard Whiting.
