By:

Tony Award-winning Broadway star, Brian Stokes Mitchell will headline an evening of celebration, titled “A New Stage for the Moonlight Amphitheatre,” located at Brengle Terrace Park, 1200 Vale Terrace Drive, on Saturday, June 27 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30pm. The cocktail attire event also includes an hors d’oeuvres and dessert reception and a special tribute by stars of the Moonlight Stage, all for the ticket price of $50, reserved seating only, which can be purchased at VisTix Ticket Office starting on June 15 by calling (760) 724-2110 or online at www.vistixonline.com.

The highlight of the event will be the musical performance by one of Broadway’s finest talents, Brian Stokes Mitchell, who has enjoyed a rich and varied career on Broadway, television and film. Mr. Mitchell began his acting career right here in San Diego with the San Diego Junior Theatre, under the tutelage of Directors/Choreographers Don and Bonnie Ward, known to many for their work at the Moonlight. Mitchell’s illustrious Broadway career includes starring roles in “Man of La Mancha” and “Ragtime,” for which he received Tony Award nominations, and “Kiss Me Kate,” for which he won the Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Awards.

The event will celebrate the completion of the new stage house and other amenities at the Moonlight Amphitheatre, which began in September, 2008.

The event will also feature a special “Opening Fanfare” coordinated by Kenneth Gammie. A special tribute to Moonlight will include a short video montage of Moonlight’s history and live vocal performances by Sarah Bermudez, Steven Glaudini, Danny Gurwin, and Bets Malone, who have all performed in starring roles in past Moonlight seasons.

A limited number of tickets for reserved seating at a “best available” offering will be on sale starting Monday, June 15 at 12 noon at the VisTix Ticket Office. Call (760) 724-2110 or go online at www.vistixonline.com to purchase tickets. Cocktail attire is suggested for this one night only special event.

Moonlight Artistic Director, Kathy Brombacher, and Managing Director, Dan Kays, are excited about launching the 2009 Summer Season in the new building. They recently announced that the season will include “42nd Street,” July 15 through August 1; “Phantom: The American Musical Sensation,” August 12 through 29; and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Cats,” September 9 through 26.
