Bramwell Tovey Leads the LA Phil and LAMC in Mozart's Requiem 9/13

Bramwell Tovey brings the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Tuesday Classical series to a conclusion, marking the 10th anniversary of 9/11 with Mozart's choral masterpiece, his Requiem, Tuesday, September 13, at 8 pm. Performing Mozart's final composition are soprano Heidi Stober, mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey, tenor Nicholas Phan, bass Matthew Rose, as well as the Los Angeles Master Chorale (LAMC). The program also includes Bernstein's Chichester Psalms featuring boy alto Caleb Glickman and the LAMC.

Grammy award-winning conductor Bramwell Tovey is acknowledged around the world for his artistic depth as well as his warm, charismatic personality on the podium. His career as a conductor is uniquely enhanced by his work as a composer and pianist, lending him a remarkable musical perspective. His tenures as music director with the Vancouver Symphony, Luxembourg Philharmonic and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestras have been characterized by his expertise in operatic, choral, British and contemporary repertoire. Tovey, who is entering 12th season as Music Director of the Vancouver Symphony, also continues as founding host and conductor of the New York Philharmonic's Summertime Classics series at Avery Fisher Hall.

American soprano Heidi Stober makes her Metropolitan Opera debut this season as Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel. She is an ensemble member with Deutsche Oper Berlin and has appeared there in productions of Die Zauberflöte (Pamina), Hänsel und Gretel (Gretel), and Un ballo in Maschera (Oscar), among others. This season, she returns to Berlin where she will be heard in Don Giovanni (Zerlina), Tancredi (Roggiero), Die Zauberflöte, Le nozze di Figaro, and Un ballo in Maschera and Carmen.

This season, rising star mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey returns to the Metropolitan Opera as Hansel in Hansel and Gretel and Siebel in Faust and makes her debuts at both the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the San Francisco Opera as Zerlina in Don Giovanni and the Aix-en-Provence Festival as Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro. She also appears in concert with Boston Symphony Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, NDR Symphony, and the Prague Philharmonia, and will be presented in recital by Smith College.

American Nicholas Phan continues to distinguish himself as one of the most interesting young tenors appearing on the prestigious concert and opera stages of the world. This season, Mr. Phan sings Luricano in Ariodante on tour with Alan Curtis and his acclaimed orchestra, Il Complesso Barocco, in Bucharest, Turin, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Vienna, and appears with the New York Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony, and with both the Orchestra of St. Luke's and Violons du Roy in Carnegie Hall.

British bass Matthew Rose was at the Curtis Institute of Music before becoming a member of the Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. For the Royal Opera his roles have included Polyphemus (Acis and Galatea), Masetto (Don Giovanni), Haraschta (The Cunning Little Vixen) and Colline (La bohème). In 2006, he made an acclaimed debut at the Glyndebourne Festival as Bottom (A Midsummer Night's Dream) - for which he received the John Christie Award - and he has since sung the role at La Scala, Milan, the Royal Opera, the Opéra National de Lyon and at the Houston Grand Opera.

Caleb Glickman is a member of the Los AngeLes Children's Chorus' Concert Choir, under the direction of Anne Tomlinson. This summer he performed twice at the Hollywood Bowl, singing with the LACC in the concert version of Puccini's Turandot, and in Philip Glass' Powaqqatsi. Caleb also performed with the LACC in the 2008 and 2010 concert versions of Carmen at the Bowl, under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel. Caleb is 13 years old and attends ninth grade at Hamilton High School's Academy of Music in Los Angeles.

Giving a voIce To Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Grammy-nominated Los Angeles Master Chorale (LAMC), considered one of the world's leading choirs, is led by Music Director Grant Gershon. The Los Angeles Times proclaims, "Under Gershon, the Master Chorale seems to be able to master anything," The New York Times calls the choir "inspired," and The New York Observer declares it "a superb vocal ensemble." The Chorale is currently in its 48th season as a resident company of the Music Center of Los Angeles County and its 9th as the resident chorus at Disney Hall.
