Award Winning THE POPE OF JOCELYN HOLLOW Opens at The Actors Group

The daughter of legendary musician, Bill Pursell. Like her father before her, who performed at the White House for John F Kennedy, actress and singer, Laura Pursell continued the family tradition receiving her first national recognition, during a special engagement for Betty and President Gerald Ford. Since then, she has recorded 5 albums and performed with established performers including Earl Palmer, Al Viola, Don Most, Judy Norton, the Les Brown Orchestra and more. She reached international acclaim performing in St. Petersburg, Russia, Dublin Ireland.

Now, she can claim a new credit on her list of accomplishments - That of award winning writer. The Pope of Jocelyn Hollow, which was the winner of the 2017 TAG Studio Solo Festival in Burbank, and will be presented at The Actors Group Theater.

This piece began as a personal monologue, and Pursell turned it into a 1-woman show. As it has continued to evolve, we have become co-creators of the project. "The Pope of Jocelyn Hollow" is a hilarious and haunting modern epic about a tyrannic matriarch presiding over her family of eccentrics, a strict regime of society standards, where love and acceptance are the stuff of myths.

Granddaughter Laura Pursell wakes up one day, hellbent on shattering this "normal" tradition, going to extremes to shake them all up. You can't stop Time: You can't wind it back: You can claim it as your own! This candid play navigates the imperfections of the human heart, giving us all a chance to push our own reset button. Written and performed by Laura Pursell. Directed by Mia Christou. Showtime is 1 hour in length. Street and neighborhood parking available.
