Anaheim's Honda Center To Host International Singing Competition 6/28-7/5

By:

The sounds you hear will be harmonious. They will be plentiful. And they will be uniquely American in their roots, but expansively international in their impact. They will come from thousands of people gathering to join in song in Anaheim, California June 28 - July 5.

Close harmony singers from across the world will meet in Anaheim for the Barbershop Harmony Society's 71st annual international convention and competitions. Singers and their fans from several countries will gather for shows, clinics, competitions, and good old-fashioned sing-alongs.

The Society's international convention returns to Anaheim after a 10 year hiatus. "Anaheim is a wonderful location for this event. It offers exciting activities for all ages," said Barbershop Harmony Society CEO, Ed Watson. "The Anaheim Garden Walk is just outside the doors of the Honda Center, with its amazing restaurants and shops. Oh, and don't forget Disneyland. There's something for everyone."

With the theme park only steps away from the Honda Center, Disneyland Resort has declared Tuesday, June 30 as Barbershop Day at Disneyland, with discounted admission for convention attendees.

During the week, the world's finest barbershop quartets and choruses will vie for coveted medals and titles in several categories naming the winners the best barbershop singers in the world. All sessions are open to the general public.

On Thursday, the Society is true to the promise in its motto to, "Keep the whole world singing." Everyone is invited to join in the 9:00 am Good News! Gospel Sing. The event is free and open to the public.

Also on Thursday, The World Harmony Jamboree Dinner Show begins at 4:30 pm and will feature some of the best men's and women's groups throughout the world. Several countries will join the United States and Canada in showcasing the uniquely American musical style of barbershop harmony.

Later that day, the Association of International Champions show will begin at 7:45 pm in the Honda Center. Gold medal quartets will perform as will a chorus made up of champion singers. Tickets are $80, $45, $30, and $20 and are available online at www.aicgold.com.

During the Saturday morning Bank of America Collegiate Barbershop Quartet Contest, the collegiate quartets will vie for the gold during this contest session. Tickets to this event are $20 for California residents at the Honda Center prior to contest start.

Night owls have the chance to see the Mixed Harmony Showcase, with men and women blending their voices in concert, Friday from 11:00 pm - 1:00 am in the Hilton Anaheim Hotel. This showcase is free.

As the week winds down, the singing revs up. On Saturday at the Honda Center, the "Harmony Foundation Presents..." show will take place. Visit www.harmonyfoundation.org for more information.

Tickets for contests and all shows will be available online at www.barbershop.org/anaheim and at the Honda Center box office prior to performances. Individual tickets for regular contest sessions are available only to California residents.

For those unable to journey to Anaheim, the Society offers over 30 hours of audio &/or video programming via webcast. Full-screen mode viewing is available for both live and archived performances. For more details, check out www.barbershop.org/webcast.
