A MURDER IS ANNOUNCED Will Play the Long Beach Playhouse

By:

Agatha Christie's A Murder is Announced opens on the Long Beach Playhouse Mainstage on January 14, 2017. The book was published in 1950 and was Ms. Christie's 50th novel. The story didn't make it to the stage until 1977, when it was first produced in the U.K.

Like other Christie mysteries, the play takes place in a house with several occupants. It begins when an announcement in the local paper states the time a murder is set to occur in Miss Blacklock's Victorian home. What follows is a classic Christie puzzle of mixed motives, concealed identities, two deaths, a determined Inspector following the many twists and turns, and Miss Marple on hand to provide the final solution at some risk to herself in a dramatic confrontation just before the final curtain.

"Our audiences love Agatha Christie," said Madison Mooney, Executive Director of the Long Beach Playhouse. "Her stories play to our strengths at The Playhouse. They have many characters so the talents of Donna Fritsche are on display in the costumes. The sounds of a creaky Victorian house filled with potential murderers and victims will be masterfully delivered by Sean Gray. Our director, Gregory Cohen, is wonderful at drawing out subtle wit and humor. And, our cast is nothing short of amazing. It's astounding the talent that exists in our community."

The 11-member cast is a mix of new and returning actors. The four actors making their debuts at The Playhouse are: Rachel Thomas-Chappell, Linda Sutera, Caitlin Barry and Kawika Aguilar. Returning actors are: BriAna Miller, Desi Molinari, Kathleen Fabry, Sarah Green, Lee Samuel Tanng, Rick Reischman, and Zach Sanchez.

A Murder is Announced opens on January 14 and runs through February 11, 2017.
