Los Angeles' collective holiday spirit is always palpable at the annual Deck the Hall holiday concerts at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Eclectic programming from across the country descends upon the city's premiere concert venue, radiating the holiday spirit throughout. Beginning Tuesday, December 13, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association presents festive programming that features ten performances in December including two very special engagements on New Year's Eve.

2011/12 DECK THE HALL HOLIDAY CONCERTS:

HANDEL'S MESSIAH

Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at 8 PM
Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 8 PM

One of the most well-known and appreciated works in Western choral literature, Handel's Messiah will be performed by the Philharmonia Baroque with Nicholas McGegan conducting and features soprano Dominique Labelle, alto Daniel Taylor, tenor Thomas Cooley, baritone Nathaniel Watson and the Philharmonia Chorale directed by Bruce Lamott. Movement after movement of this beloved work showcases unforgettable melodies, impeccable choral counterpoint, tremendous rhythmic variety and expressive word painting.


A CHANTICLEER CHRISTMAS

Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 8 PM

Heralded as "the world's reigning male chorus" by The New Yorker, Chanticleer returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall with A Chanticleer Christmas. Continuing their much-loved tradition, this captivating "orchestra of voices" brings the bright spirit of the season to Walt Disney Concert Hall in a radiant holiday program. Named 2008 Ensemble of the Year by Musical America, Chanticleer delivers an eclectic program of music, ranging from Gregorian chant to contemporary masterpieces.

 

HOLIDAY ORGAN SPECTACULAR FEATURING DAVID HIGGS

Friday, December 16, 2011, at 8 PM

The splendor of the annual Holiday Organ Spectacular, featuring organist David Higgs, returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall. Sure to kindle everyone's festive spirit, the program combines sacred and traditional holiday music with beloved, popular carols.

 

HOLIDAY SING-ALONG

Saturday, December 17, 2011, at 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM

Celebrating its sixth anniversary, the Holiday Sing-Along, hosted by spirited storyteller David Prather, encourages audiences to participate in the merry spirit of the season. Audience members are provided with lyric sheets as they sing famed carols in an annual sold-out concert that is fun and entertaining for the whole family.

 

The Klezmatics

Monday, December 19, 2011, at 8 PM

Since their emergence, The Klezmatics, often called a "Jewish roots band," have led a popular revival of this ages-old, nearly forgotten art form that, in its first incarnations, flourished at Jewish weddings and other joyous occasions. Now, the Grammy-winning klezmer superstars and music steeped in Eastern European Jewish traditions and spirituality return to Walt Disney Concert Hall, just in time for the holiday season.

 

A SWINGIN' CHRISTMAS WITH John Pizzarelli AND Jessica Molaskey

Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at 8 PM

This husband-and-wife team described by The New York Times as "a musical match made in heaven" present seasonal favorites from the swinging era when Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole and Rosemary Clooney ruled the airwaves.

 

NEW YEAR'S EVE WITH PINK MARTINI

Saturday, December 31, 2011, at 7 PM and 10:30 PM

Pink Martini return to Walt Disney Concert Hall to ring in 2012 with their spirited blend of Brazilian samba, '30s Cuban dance, Parisian café sensibility and world-music flair. Founder and pianist Thomas M. Lauderdale describes the ensemble as "musical archaeologists, bringing melodies and rhythms from different parts of the world together to make music which has broad appeal to people, no matter who they are or where they come from."
