BWW Reviews: Grand Laughs With Paul Scally

By:

Paul Scally is one very funny guy. I first saw him when he was an opener for Bobby Slayton earlier this year. I believe Slayton - blue as he is - is one very, very funny man. And Paul Scally is, too.

Now, Scally has his own show every Thursday night at the Downtown Grand (206 North 3rd Street). The hotel is located at the former site of the Lady Luck Hotel and Casino.

Grand Laughs, as Scally's show is called, features him as both host and headliner. Each week he will invite other comics to perform

Opening night, last Thursday, he brought Lance Montallto and Mark Patrick to the stage.

Montalto is a multi-talented guy who has played across the USA. Patrick is also very funny. Among diverse topics, he discussed being a mulatto and talked about yoga (It is difficult and it can hurt so there should be a safe word.)

But, in the end, the evening belonged to Paul Scally. His (I think) Cockney accent has a certain charm and, if the voice sounds familiar, it could be because he was an original GEICO Gecko..

Scally does involve the audience by talking to one or two people but he doesn't embarrass anyone by calling them onstage.

Grand Laughs may be seen Thursday nights at 8, with doors opening at 7:30. Tickets are $19.94 and the show is free to locals and hotel guests and Scally plans to go out onto Fremont Street and invite people to join the audience.

With ticket prices as they are in Las Vegas, a good show at no cast is a rare treat to be treasured.

Each week there is a red carpet at starting at 7 pm.
