Spinning Tree Theatre proudly announces the inaugural Spinning Tree Theatre Guild Scholarship, sponsored by the Guild and administered by the Artistic Committee. In keeping with the mission of educational development in the live theatre arts, Spinning Tree has created this scholarship fund to assist area high school seniors in pursuing higher education. The inaugural 2017 award is a one-time $1,000 scholarship.

Music Theatre Kansas City presents the Disney classic, The Little Mermaid, in conjunction with the Youth Symphony of Kansas City. Performances will be on Friday, March 17th at 7 pm and Saturday, March 18th at 2 pm and 7 pm at Avila University's Goppert Theatre (11901 Wornall Road Kansas City, MO 64145). Advanced tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for students, and $6 for children ages 10 and under. Tickets at the door will be $20 for adults, $15 for students, and $8 for children ages 10 and under.

Audiences will see short teasers of scripts submitted by local playwrights earlier this season and will vote for the script that will receive a full workshop at OCTA this summer. The winner will be announced following the second night of the competition.

Last year, the classical music world mourned the loss of the great Finnish composer, Einojuhani Rautavaara, who passed away on July 27, 2016, in Helsinki at age 87. His rich legacy is further extended with the world premiere of one of his last works, the Fantasia for solo violin and orchestra, to be performed by Anne Akiko Meyers and the Kansas City Symphony, led by Michael Stern.
