Unicorn Theatre, under the artistic leadership of Producing Artistic Director Cynthia Levin, announced the 39th season starting in September 2012 earlier this spring.

Kansas City based playwright Ron Simonian returns to the Unicorn this holiday season with the next play in his evolution of irreverent and sharp-tongued humor, but this time he’s also playing guitar. The Unicorn will present, as a season extra, the world premiere of The Soul Collector December 6-23, 2012.  The end of the world is on the horizon and Lester Dupree has a plan for your salvation. Lester infuses his fanatical takes on the word of God with his very own brand of music.  It's time to build your home in heaven, so bring an open mind, an open heart, but most importantly, bring your soul. Your salvation is moments away! If you loved Next of Kin, Slight Defect:  A Desert Holiday, Zone 3, At The Feet of Doves, Arms and Legs, or Thanatos, don’t miss The Soul Collector.  Cynthia Levin directs and Ron Simonian stars as Lester Dupree.  Subscribers can see the show for just $15.  Single tickets prices will be announced later and go on sale November 19, 2012.

The In-Progress New Play Reading Series is your opportunity to catch a glimpse of new works we are developing from local and national playwrights. Many of the scripts you will hear read are being considered for our 2013-2014 season. In the last five seasons, seven of the plays read in this series have been produced in a subsequent season as a full production. Tickets or reservations not required. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. All readings are at 7:30pm Dates: Sunday November 11, 2012; Sunday February 10, 2013, Thursday March 14, 2013; Sunday April 7, 2013. This series is free to the public, though donations are accepted at the door.

Don’t miss the world premieres of The Soul Collector and BlackTop Sky next season at the Unicorn. They were first seen in the In-Progress Reading Series in Spring 2012.
