Three Park International Center for Music Students Awarded Scholarships

Three Park International Center for Music Students Awarded Scholarships Roger Kugler, Director of the Park International Center for Music announced today that three Park ICM students had won significant music scholarships over the past weekend.

Kansas City Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota Scholarship Competition auditioned area musicians. These scholarships are an opportunity to recognize outstanding talent in the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area. Auditions were held Saturday, March 3, 2018, the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Prairie Village. Contestants must be currently enrolled in a college or university within a 150-mile radius of the KC Metro area and must perform literature as directed by the chapter and national association. Five prizes were awarded in the area of piano, orchestral instrument, and voice ranging from $1,000 to $1,500.

Melissa Patterson, Scholarship Committee Chairman, released the names of the five winners, two of whom are graduate students enrolled in at Park International Center of Music and are students of Stanislav Ioudenitch, gold medalist of 2001 Cliburn; they are:

· Simon Karakulidi, piano; Diamond Sword Scholarship-$1,500

· Evangeliya Delizonas-Khukhua, piano; Rose Award-$1,000

The 22nd Annual Hellam Young Artists' Competition, sponsored by the Springfield Symphony, Springfield, Missouri. Instrumental students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program are invited to submit video auditions. From those applications, ten semi-finalists are invited to the competition where they perform for a jury. Three were selected to perform in the final stage of the competition. The winner, Graeme Johnson, clarinetist from New Haven, received a cash award and an invitation to perform with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra in their 2018-2019 season. Hanna Zhdan, violin undergraduate student at the Park International Center for Music was awarded the 2nd place in the competition and received a cash award of #3,500. She is a student of Park Professor Ben Sayevich.
