Gomez, Ben Folds, Old 97's - on sale at pipelineproductions.com
Gomez w/ Civil Twilight, Friday, July 8Gomez
When it came time to record their seventh studio album, the eclectic, beautiful Whatever's On Your Mind, the members of Gomez found themselves in a bit of a "long distance writing relationship." Spread out on opposite corners of the world, the band - who had once shared a house - were forced to think outside the box and revamp their writing strategy. Not the types to shy away from a challenge, they took up an unusual, near-futuristic tactic. (gomeztheband.com)
Ben Folds first found mainstream success as the leader of the critically acclaimed platinum-selling Ben Folds Five. He has gone on to have a very successful solo career, recording three studio albums in addition to a pair of records documenting his renowned live performances and a remix record. Folds recently released Ben Folds Presents: University A Cappella!, a collection of his songs performed by college groups. Folds also serves as judge on NBC's hit a cappella show, The Sing-Off.
In addition he has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra at The Kennedy Center, the Boston Pops with Keith Lockhart, and four sold out nights with the Sydney Symphony at the Sydney Opera House. (benfolds.com)
Old 97's
Since the Old 97's roared out of Dallas more than fifteen years ago, they have blazed a trail through alt-country and power-pop, led by the piercingly observant lyrics of lead singer Rhett Miller. Each new Old 97's record is hotly anticipated, and rightfully so: "Blame It On Gravity," from 2008, contained some of the band's most deeply felt and passionately played songs. But in a career full of high-water marks, "The Grand Theatre Volume 1" is perhaps the most ambitious and accomplished set of recordings yet. (old97s.com)
