Larraine Hansberry's Groundbreaking Stage Classic A RAISIN IN THE SUN Comes to KCRep

By:

Kansas City Repertory Theatre continues its 2016-2017 season with the American theatre classic, A Raisin in the Sun, written by Lorraine Hansberry and directed by Kansas City Repertory Theatre's Assistant Artistic Director Chip Miller and Marissa Wolf, Director of New Works.

Raisin is a story that revolves around the Younger family that remains as universally relevant and deeply relatable today as it was more than 60 years ago when it first hit Broadway. This three-generation family yearns for different versions of a better life and the American Dream in the rapidly changing world of 1950s Chicago. These opposing forces both unite and divide the family, as each grapple with the social issues that challenge their identity and the personal choices that will determine their future. Ultimately, A Raisin in the Sun celebrates faith, courage, and the human spirit.

A Raisin in the Sun begins March 24 at KC Rep's Spencer Theatre on the UMKC campus and runs through April 16.

"It's so exciting to approach this incredible text at this moment in time," says Miller. "Hansberry was a revolutionary, and it's a gift to share this master work with a new generation of Kansas City audiences."

"With an extraordinary Kansas City and Chicago team of actors to breathe life into this muscular text, we feel the deep and timely relevance of a family on the cusp of a seismic shift in their lives," adds Wolf.

A Raisin in the Sun is made possible with support from The Celebrating our Heritage Fund - Miller & Jeannette Nichols, The Hearst Foundation, Inc., Sprint, and other generous donors.

Performances begin Friday, March 24 and run through Sunday, April 16 at Spencer Theatre. Tickets may be purchased at http://kcrep.org/show/a-raisin-in-the-sun by calling 816-235-2700.
