Kansas City Repertory Theatre's Artistic Director Eric Rosen is pleased to announce the cast of The Diary of Anne Frank, directed by Marissa Wolf, KC Rep's Director of New Works. The play, based upon Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, was originally written for the stage by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. In 1997, Wendy Kesselman published a revised version of Goodrich and Hackett's Pulitzer Prize winning script, which integrated some of the more personal aspects of Anne Frank's story that remained untold in the original script.

Peer into the world of a family in hiding and a gifted young writer who came of age during the horrors of the Holocaust. Through Anne's eyes, we see the prevailing hopes of a girl who - despite everything - inspired generations with her unwavering faith in humanity. This production begins Friday, Jan. 29 and runs through Sunday, Feb. 21 at KC Rep's newly renovated Spencer Theatre.

"This work by Wendy Kessleman is stunningly lyrical and poetic," stated Wolf. "My hope is that KC Rep audiences will connect intimately with Anne as a budding young woman and all that goes with a young and emerging heart, in spite of the world looming outside."

The ensemble cast, drawn locally as well as from across the country, includes: Daniel Beeman as Peter Van Daan, Martin Buchanan as Mr. Dussel, Peggy Friesen as Edith Frank, Nicole Marie Green as Margo Frank, Shanna Jones as Miep, Merle Moores as Mrs. Van Daan, Andy Perkins as Mr. Kraler, Victor Raider-Wexler as Mr. Van Daan, Rachel Shapiro as Anne Frank, and Lenny Wolpe as Otto Frank.

Performances begin Friday, Jan. 29 and run through Sunday, Feb. 21 at Spencer Theatre. Press night is scheduled for Opening Night Friday, Feb. 5. High res rehearsal photos can be found here. Appropriate for ages 8+.

Anne Frank Exhibition

KC Rep is honored to be a stop on the 2016 world tour of The Anne Frank Center's exhibition entitled "Anne Frank: A History for Today'. This specially-designed traveling exhibit is used to educate visitors of all ages about the dangerous consequences of intolerance to all communities. Examining World War II and the Holocaust through the perspective of Anne Frank, the exhibit helps visitors to understand what intolerance is and urges them to work together to create a society based on mutual respect. This fascinating and informative pictorial exhibit will be on display in the Spencer Theatre lobby throughout the run of The Diary of Anne Frank, Jan 29 through Feb 21, 2016.

The exhibition "Anne Frank - A History for Today" has been shown in three thousand locations in more than ninety countries. The personal story of Anne Frank is complemented by photographs and texts about the time in which she lived: the rise of the national socialists, the persecution of the Jews and the Second World War.
