Judy Garland Meet Me in St. Louis Dress on Display at the Missouri History Museum
The iconic red velvet dress worn by actress Judy Garland during the Christmas scene in MGM's classic musical comedy Meet Me in St. Louis is on display in the World's Fair Gallery at the Missouri History Museum now through January 1, 2020. The dress is on loan to the Missouri History Museum from the collection of Mary Strauss.
Judy Garland wore this red velvet dress when she sang "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" in the 1944 classic Meet Me in St. Louis. It was created by costume designer Irene Sharaff and features a fitted bodice, voluminous sleeves, a sweetheart neckline, and a floor-length skirt. Inside the gown is a label that reads "1317 - Judy Garland" and an "MHM Wardrobe" stamp. Garland also wore the dress when she attended Seven Lively Arts at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City with Vincente Minnelli in 1944. They married the next year.
The dress is on loan to the Museum courtesy of the Mary Strauss Collection. Before the screening enjoy hands-on activities, and performance excerpts from Ballet 314's new version of The Nutcracker set at the 1904 World's Fair. Costumes are welcome, and so is singing along! Complimentary treats and drinks will be available during the pre-show activities and intermission.

Meet Me in St. Louis Film Screenings Thursday, Dec. 19, 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm Friday, Dec. 20, 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm Pre-show activities begin at 5:30 pm. Screenings start at 6:30 pm. Meet Me in St. Louis is unrated; 1 hour and 53 minutes with a 20-minute intermission.
