Jewish Family Services Hosts Hannukah Gift Wrap Party For Those In Need The days are shorter and cooling off-and that can mean only one thing-Hanukkah is just around the corner!

For some in our community, the Festival of Lights (beginning at sundown Dec.12) is not as bright as they face economic insecurity struggling to make ends meet. Help make a difference for an individual or family in our community by participating in Jewish Family Services Hanukkah Project. Last year's efforts provided more than 350 people with Hanukkah gifts.

The JFS Hanukkah Project is for the entire family and choice is the name of the game. One way to participate is adopting a family or a Bubbe or Zayde for Hanukkah. "Adoptions" are taking place through Nov. 10. To adopt, visit the agency's web site at www.jfskc.org or call Taly Friedman, JFS Director of Volunteer Engagement, at (913) 730-1445.

Those adopting will receive a suggested "wish list" of items to purchase for the individual or family. Once purchased, gift items for the adopted families should be dropped off at JFS' office at the Jewish Community Campus (5801 W. 115th St. in Overland Park) between Monday, Nov. 20 and Wednesday, Nov. 22, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Shopping not your thing? No worries- you can also help out by donating gift cards from Target and WalMart as well as area grocery stores Hy-Vee and Price Chopper; increments of $25 is suggested. These cards will be given to recipients to make their own selections. Please drop gift cards at JFS' office at the Campus or mail them to the JFS office with "Attention: Hanukkah Project" on the envelope. Financial contributions are also welcome to help support the holiday project. Financial donations can also be made on line at www.jfskc.org/donate or mail in a check. Please make checks payable to Jewish Family Services and send to JFS, Attention: Hanukkah Project, 5801 W. 115th Street, Suite 103, Overland Park, KS 66211. All donations are tax deductible.

This year's Hanukkah Gift Wrapping Party will be extra fun. Volunteers, both kids and their adults, can participate in the "wrap up" event on Sunday, Dec. 3 from 11:45 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Campus Social Hall-and watch the Kansas City Chiefs game at the same time! Drivers are also needed to help make gift delivers on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 7 and 8. If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please e-mail volunteer@jfskc.org.
