BWW Review: SISTER STRIKES AGAIN! at Starlight Indoor Theatre
Sister Strikes Again!
Mary Beth Burns returns in Starlight Indoor Theater's latest edition of "Sister Strikes Again" by Maripat Donovan. Sister Mary Beth commands a strict catechism class where she addresses all the Catholic issues you never wanted to hear about, as is her habit. However, this sister is not to be messed with, so I suggest you don't "cross" her. She's out to save souls, not seats, and she's definitely up to the task.
Frequently engaging directly with the audience, Sister quickly establishes that if what she says makes you feel guilty, then you probably are. There's a quick review of "sins" (just in case you may have forgotten) then a Chutes and Ladders explanation of how to get to heaven and avoid hell. It's all hilarious fun as she pokes at one Joyce and Bill after another in the class.
You need not study up before you go because Sister has the curriculum already prepared. All you need to do is have fun and let the good Sister remind you of where you've gone wrong. Have you forgotten the 10 Commandments? Sister Mary Beth will cover them all and possibly you, if you're showing a little too much skin. It's a nostalgic romp through childhood (regardless of whether you grew up Catholic, or not) as Sister quizzes and rewards good students for their well learned lessons.
After more than one hundred different "Sisters" have appeared in shows in more than 400 cities across the country. This is number 7 in a series of shows that Donovan has written over the last 25 years. However, due to the nature of Sister Mary Beth's classroom, expect her to deviate from the script in order to make a point with the pupils present.
So, if you're ready for a few good belly laughs or a mindful snicker, get down to the Starlight before class is dismissed. I recommend you arrive early and don't enter late like Marilyn, Marilyn, and Catherine - or she'll take you down!!!
