Bar Manager

The People's Theatre (TPT) seeks a Bar Manager to lead operations for the café & bar at our new 20,000-square-foot performing arts center, Centro Cultural Inmigrante, opening in Inwood in September 2026.

The café and bar serves as a welcoming social hub for audiences, artists, and community members before performances, during intermission, and at special events. The Bar Manager oversees all aspects of food and beverage operations, including staffing, inventory management, purchasing, financial reporting, customer service, and event support.

This is a hands-on leadership role. The Bar Manager supervises bartenders while actively working shifts and supporting daily operations. The position collaborates closely with the Audience & Community Experience, Marketing, Development, and Production teams to support performances, events, and revenue-generating opportunities.

This position is full-time, non-exempt, and reports to the Audience & Community Experience Manager and is based in New York City.

Responsibilities

• Hire, train and supervise part-time team members (Bartenders)
• Create and manage employee schedules
• Create food & beverage menus
• Maintain all health and safety practices for all areas of the Café & Bar
• Purchase, stock and track inventory of all consumable and non-consumable items
• Maintain a purchasing budget and costs as directed by management
• Perform administrative and reporting tasks in a timely manner
• Act as lead bartender/café manager for a minimum of five shifts per week in addition to administration hours.
• Manage logistics for internal and external catering events including rentals and internal events
• Control cash handling and reporting of income and expenditures
• Contribute ideas for additional income generation, communication, and development opportunities to strengthen café and bar visibility, working closely with the marketing and development departments.
• Ensure that excellent customer service is delivered at all times to patrons and visitors
• Revise and maintain standard operating procedures as needed.
• Foster a welcoming and respectful climate among all team members
• Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays (when applicable)

Qualifications

• At least two years experience in a food & beverage related management role
• Knowledge of POS systems (Square knowledge is a plus)
• In depth knowledge of wine, spirits and cocktails
• Previous bar or restaurant management experience required
• Computer skills required to fulfill management functions, including POS system operation and Google Workspace.
• Experience with expense tracking and budget management
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills
• Experience managing and overseeing a team of employees
• Self-motivated and initiative driven with leadership ability
• Handles well under pressure while coordinating a wide range of activities
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Outstanding organizational skills and extraordinary attention to detail
• Able to lift up to 50lbs and stand for long periods of time
• In-depth knowledge of NYC Department of Health standards
• Food Handler’s Certificate
• Passion and knowledge of the Off-Broadway and Broadway community a plus
   

Compensation & Benefits 

• Annual Salary: $55,000 - $60,000, plus tips from worked shifts.
