Voice & Speech Coach for "King Lear" - NY Classical Theatre

LISTING INFORMATION

NY Classical Theatre is hiring a Voice & Speech Coach to work in direct collaboration with the director of our production of "King Lear." The ideal candidate self-identifies as: a Black, Indigenous, Pacific Islander, Latinx/Latino, Middle Eastern, North African, Asian, South Asian, or multiracial creative partner whose background reflects the global majority audience communities we serve.



NY Classical is especially interested in candidates who are excited to champion the actor’s process and vocal health while executing the director’s vision. Applicants should be self-motivated professionals who can work independently and in frequent contact with director.



Commitment and compensation:



King Lear by William Shakespeare

Rehearsal: June 1-23; Previews: June 24-30; Opening July 1, 2021

30 hours per week (Monday-Saturday, 12pm-5pm, rehearsals only); Fee: $2,200





Responsibilities

• Work side-by-side with the director to develop a vocal design/direction for the production.

• Attend all rehearsals and work directly with the actors.*

• Identify needs and schedule individual coaching sessions with selected performers.

• Coach dialects and singing, as required.



*Consult with one of our resident voice & speech coaches on the specific needs of Panoramic Theatre.



Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in the field of professional voice coaching, text coaching, directing, teaching, or a similar combination of education and practice.

• Broad knowledge of classical text analysis and the application for perfomers, with particular emphasis of the use of voice and speech as it applies to a variety of acting techniques.

• Experience in the use of vocals in non-amplified outdoor performance.

• Highly organized, with particularly strong skills in communicating both orally and written.

• Intellectual curiosity and a sincere enthusiasm for NY Classical’s mission, programs, and our signature Panoramic Theatre staging technique.

• Local hire only.
