Inclusive Theatre Practitioner

Seeking Energetic, Creative, Self-Motivated, Kind, and Talented Theatre Practitioner for a Young People's Inclusive Theatre Company.

Chickenshed NYC is recruiting for part-time Theatre Practitioners to work in its inclusive musical theatre programs on Saturdays and/or Tuesdays at the 14th Street Y.

Applicants should have a desire to work with children and youth; good listening skills; flexibility to pivot during a workshop or rehearsal to incorporate children and youth-led ideas; ability to be a good team player; and problem-solving skills. Other skills such as performance experience, instrumental skills (e.g. guitar/piano, music composition/arrangement), puppetry, storytelling, and American Sign Language are a bonus.

Training is provided in Chickenshed NYC’s inclusive methodology.

As an inclusive theatre company, Chickenshed NYC welcomes applications from people with disabilities and people of all races, ethnicities, gender expressions, sexual orientations, nationalities, and backgrounds.

During training, practitioners are paid at a rate of $25/hour; upon successful completion of training, a contract will be offered that is pegged to a rate of $30/hour.

All Chickenshed NYC employees and contractors are required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

WHO WE ARE

Chickenshed NYC is the American cousin of London’s Chickenshed Theatre Company, which for more than 45 years has pioneered inclusive theatre by and for children and youth. Chickenshed NYC is built on the notion of inclusive participation, with the belief that everyone can contribute their ideas and gifts regardless of ability, race, circumstance, or background.

Core programs include Adventures from The Shed performances for preschoolers ages 2-5 and their families and Chickenshed Players, inclusive theatre workshops and programs for young people ages 5-17+. All programming occurs in-person and is subject to public health considerations.

Deadline for applications is 5th July. Selected applicants asked to attend an online interview on 14th/15th July. Interviewed applicants may be asked to submit a letter of recommendation after their interview.
