Sound Board Operator/Programmer – Basic Crew - Manhattan Theatre Club

Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC), a Tony Award-winning nonprofit theatre dedicated to the production of contemporary plays and musicals, seeks a Sound Board Operator/Programmer for a seasonal position at MTC’s NY City Center Stage One. For over forty years, MTC has been the creative and artistic home for America’s most gifted theatrical artists, producing works of the highest quality by contemporary American and international playwrights. MTC produces eight plays annually between Broadway's restored Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on West 47th Street and off Broadway at the historic NY City Center complex on West 55th Street.



This person will be responsible for programming and running two productions in Stage One per season, and providing technical support for these productions as well as events in the MTC spaces. NYCC Stage One is a 300 seat venue.



Responsibilities and Skills:

 Serving as the lead sound technician assisting the Lighting and Sound Supervisor in the supervision of the load in and strike crews for each production.

 Duties shall include but not be limited to: reading a system flow and sound plot; assist the lighting and sound supervisor on its implementation; ability to troubleshoot basic sound issues on speakers, amps and microphones; programming the sound board; running the shows; show maintenance; general maintenance; and upkeep of equipment inventories.

 A strong background in Meyer Compass and D&B R1 Galileo Galaxy 816,, and proficiency with the Yamaha line of consoles

 Knowledge of Clear-com setup and distribution, both Helixnet and analog

 Confidence and basic knowledge of video distribution, primarily for SM video shots and enhanced performances, and assisting with Projections on productions that merit it.

 Additional support for the production in all fields of technical theater.



Requirements:

 2-3 years’ experience Sound Board Operator/Programmer

 Knowledge of current Sound equipment and practices

 Ability to Program Sound on a Yamaha DM1000 and Yamaha O2R 96

 Proficient computer skills in QLab 4 and Microsoft Office, and confidence in troubleshooting Audinate’s Dante

 Collaborative attitude and strong communication skills

 Ability to work in a detailed and organized manner, resourceful and flexible

 Basic carpentry, props, and lighting knowledge a plus

 Must be able to climb and work from ladders and lift and carry 40 lbs.



The ideal candidate is good at problem solving and able to approach problems from many angles. Creativity and willingness to work as a team member required.

This position at Manhattan Theatre Club’s City Center Stage I theatre is under the jurisdiction of the collective bargaining agreement between MTC and IATSE Local One for Stage I. Pay and benefits are prescribed by this union agreement currently at $ 31.28 per hour.
