LISTING INFORMATION

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Scenic Artist, under the overall management of the Director of Production, serves as the Paint Charge on all Springer Opera House productions as well as Scenic Designer on occasional assignments. The Scenic Artists is responsible for the execution and maintenance of all Springer Opera House productions, dealing primarily with scenic painting.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Paint Charge

Working with the Scenic Designer and DOP, plan, schedule, and complete all elements of scenic painting needs for a production.

Execute different painting techniques to best achieve design as provided by Scenic Designer.

Collaborate with Director of Production, Scenic Designer, Technical Director, Asst. Technical Director, and other Springer staff to ensure the highest quality of production.

Organize, clean, and maintain the Springer Opera House Paint Room.

Prepare, protect, and clean all tools needed for each project.

Scenic Design

Scenic design at least one production in the Springer Opera House season as assigned by the Director of Production.

Create renderings, draftings, and other necessary technical drawings for the production team to understand and execute the design.

Work with the director and stage manager of a production to ensure the design fits the needs of the production.

Work with the Properties Designer to coordinate set dressing, furniture, and details of the design.

Attend production meetings, at least one pre-tech run of the show, and all technical and dress rehearsals.

Meet deadlines for paperwork and completion of the design as set by the Director of Production.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Degree in technical theatre or equivalent work experience with a minimum of 2 years of experience in scenic painting and scenic design for theatrical productions. Satisfactory portfolio displaying high-quality work with attention to detail, as well as a wide range of technique and experience in scenic painting and scenic design required. Must maintain a positive attitude, possess leadership skills, high level of organizational, communication, problem-solving skills, and ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.



SALARY $375 per week; travel stipend, housing provided.

CONTRACT: On-site, seasonal from January 2023 to May 21, 2023.
