Production/Stage Manager - Nazareth College

The Theatre and Dance Department invites applications for a ten month, full-time staff position, with teaching responsibilities, in Production and Stage Management, for a thriving Theatre and Dance Department. This position will start in Mid-January, 2022.

The successful candidate should be an actively practicing artist with a significant background in professional and educational production and stage management, have a network with industry professionals, and the ability to contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the programs in the department. All faculty and staff at Nazareth College are expected to effectively collaborate with department faculty and faculty across disciplines, mentor studies and supervise student-related activities, and to participate in committee service within the department and the College. Primary responsibilities include:

Teach production and stage management type of courses

Manage the department production season: four main stage productions, one spring dance concert, and a few student productions.

Develop and maintain departmental production calendar, assign and reserve rehearsal spaces, set design & production meetings and deadlines, create rehearsal, technical rehearsal, and performance schedules.

Provide oversight for production construction progress and the successful completion of the production elements in a safely and timely manner.

Manage production budget and crew placement.

Uphold, enforce, and help developing rehearsal, audition, and backstage policies and protocols, ensuring safety and best practices

Stage manage and mentor undergraduate students stage managers for productions during the department’s season.

Participate in Portfolio Reviews and Senior Comprehensive committees for students in the BFA Theatre Design and Technology program.

Participate in Portfolio review of the prospective students for the BFA Theatre Design and Technology program, and other recruitment activities.

Qualifications:

A terminal degree with an emphasis in stage and/or production management is referred. We will consider candidates who have a Bachelor’s degree with substantial professional experiences in production and stage management.

Professional experience in theatrical management at the regional, national, and/or international level.

Professional affiliations (AEA, USA/IATSE, USITT, etc.)

Experience working in a higher education environment.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication, budgetary, and time management skills. They should demonstrate potential as an excellent teacher and mentor and the ability to model professional standards. They should have the experience and interests working with culturally diverse groups, and experience building a diverse and inclusive teaching and learning environment.
