Summer Place Theatre in Naperville, IL is holding open auditions for actors 16 and up for their production of Legally Blonde the Musical!

A fabulously fun award-winning musical based on the adored movie, Legally Blonde The Musical, follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. Action-packed and exploding with memorable songs and dynamic dances - this musical is so much fun, it should be illegal!

Elle Woods appears to have it all. Her life is turned upside down when her boyfriend Warner dumps her so he can attend Harvard Law. Determined to get him back, Elle ingeniously charms her way into the prestigious law school. While there, she struggles with peers, professors and her ex. With the support of some new friends, though, Elle quickly realizes her potential and sets out to prove herself to the world.

Callbacks: Thursday, May 22nd: Rubin Center: 305 W. Jackson Ave, Naperville, IL (callback notices will be sent out Tuesday night to those who are called back. Please watch your email.) If you did not receive a callback, it does NOT mean you are not in the show!





Audition Structure

Auditions will be 60 minutes consisting of a vocal audition and a dance audition and a fight audition. If you are auditioning for Callahan, you do not need to participate in the dance portion.





Material to Prepare

In addition to a Headshot/Resume, please prepare to sing one minute of a song that shows off your voice and is not from the show. Bring sheet music of the song you've prepared. An accompanist will be provided. No acapella or recorded music. Dress comfortably for the dance and fight audition.

Please bring any conflicts between May 27th-August 3rd. No conflicts submitted after the first read-through will be accepted.

Offers will be made by phone between May 23-26. If you are not cast, you will receive an email no later than May 26th.





Time Commitment

First Rehearsal: Tuesday, May 27th: 7pm

Typical Rehearsal Schedule: Sunday, 6-9pm, Monday-Thursday, 7-10pm

Sitzprobe: Thursday, July 17th

Tech week begins Sunday, July 20th



Rehearsals will take place at Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center, Naperville Central High School, and Fort Hill Activity Center, all in Naperville.

Performances: Naperville Central High School Auditorium (440 West Aurora Ave Naperville, IL 60540) Friday, July 25th-Sunday, August 3rd.

Performance times: 8 performances - Fridays at 7:30pm, Saturdays at 2pm and 7:30pm and Sundays at 2pm

Pickup Rehearsals: Thursday, July 31st at 7pm





Mandatory strike after Sunday, August 3rd performance





CASTING BREAKDOWN - All genders are as presented in the script. We will also be casting a number of ensemble members to fill out featured parts.

Elle Woods (Gb2-G5 Soprano Belt) Elle is a bubbly college-age girl who follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School.

Emmett Forrest (B2-A4 Tenor) Emmett is a smart, quirky, sensitive and personable law student.

Paulette Buonofuonte (A3-A5 Soprano Belt) Paulette is the owner of Hair Affair, a local salon.

Professor Callahan (A2-F#4 Baritone) Callahan is a pompous and manipulative law professor at Harvard.

Warner Huntington III (Eb3-Ab4 Tenor) Warner is attractive and charming but very self-absorbed.

Vivienne Kensington (A3-F5 HUGE Soprano Belt) Vivienne is an overachieving, stuck-up, savvy law student.

Brooke Wyndham (A3-G5 Alto or Soprano) Brooke is an exercise video star. It is expected that she can jump rope and belt at the same time!

Pilar/Ensemble (G#3-F5 Belt) Member of Elle's entourage who follow her through the story as her "Greek Chorus."

Margot/Ensemble (G#3-F5 Belt) Member of Elle's entourage who follow her through the story as her "Greek Chorus."

Serena/Ensemble (G#3-F5 Belt) Member of Elle's entourage who follow her through the story as her "Greek Chorus."

Kyle B. O'Boyle/Ensemble (no vocal requirement) Kyle is a physically fit, smooth-talking UPS deliveryman.

Enid Hoops/Ensemble (G3-G5 Soprano Belt) Enid is a strong, opinionated, feminist law student at Harvard.

Elle's Mom/Ensemble (C4 - E5 Alto) High society socialite from Malibu.

Elle's Dad/Ensemble (D3 - E#4 Baritone) High society golfer from Malibu.

Who can audition for shows at Summer Place Theatre?



Auditions are open to all performers, whether you’re a seasoned actor or exploring theatre for the first time. We encourage anyone with a passion for performing to consider auditioning or getting involved!





What is the rehearsal and performance schedule like?



Rehearsals typically begin 6-9 weeks before the opening of each show, with around 4-5 rehearsals per week. These usually take place on weekday evenings and occasionally on weekends, depending on the director’s schedule and cast availability. All rehearsals are held in Naperville, IL.





Are actors paid or provided with housing?



Actors participate on a volunteer basis, as we do not offer payment or stipends for performers. Additionally, we do not provide housing, so local residency or travel accommodations are the responsibility of each actor.
