Hermanis, a Latvian artistic director of the New Theatre of Riga and recent recipient of the Europe Prize New Theatrical Realities, signs the direction of The Maidens from Wilko by Iwaskiewicz, one of the most important figures of Polish contemporary literature.

After a sombre mourning, Wiktor decides to return to his childhood village for the summer. Here, he meets five sisters whom he knew in his youth. His connections with this family are many: he had a relationship with one of the sisters who has already passed away and he was the tutor of the eldest one...

Andres Wajda had produced the cinematographic version, an Oscar nominee. In this production, Hermanis' hyper-realistic aesthetics is confirmed. Accustomed to directing actors of another language, for the first time here, he works with Italian actors.
