A first worldwide adaptation of the best-seller novel by internationally acclaimed Israeli author Meir Shalev. Yair Mendelsohn is an Israeli tour guide born in 1948, the year of Israel’s independence. On one of his tours, he hears the tale told by an old Palmach member – of a young pigeon handler – “The Baby”, who was killed in the battle of St. Simon and of the last “pigeon-gram” he had sent to his lover.
The memory reveals the story of the love affair between “The Baby”,a boy from a Kibutz in the Jordan Valley, and of “The Girl”, a young woman from Tel Aviv. While growing up, the two of them became pigeon handlers for the Haganna organization during the War of Independence.
This is the story of Israel, as it was, and as it latter became, as well as the story of people who, like pigeons, yearn to come home. A timeless love ballad that pulls at one’s heart strings.
