THE ODD COUPLE Closes This Week
![]()
The Everyman's production of Neil Simon's The Odd Couple, is a perfect summer night out and it must finish this Saturday, August 17th. Since it opened in July, audiences have been delighting in the quick witted, laugh a minute, humour. This production is a fresh look at a familiar set up and TV shows like Friends owe a huge debt to Simon's comic genius.
The lead characters have been transformed into Olive and Florence. Olive, and her group of girlfriends, are enjoying their weekly game of Trivial Pursuit in Olive's messy, and ill equipped, Upper East Side apartment. Her old friend Florence arrives fresh from being dumped by her husband. Fearful that the neurotic Florence might harm herself, Olive invites her to move in. Olive's easy going outlook on life soon clashes with Florence's highly strung, neurotic tendencies, testing the friendship to the limit. When Olive organizes a double date with the Costazuela brothers, their differences come to a head and sparks fly.
Starring Nichola MacEvilly as Florence and Gillian McCarthy as Olive, directed by Conor Hanratty, it also features Noni Stapleton as Mickey, Gene Rooney as Vera, Camille Ross as Sylvie, Éadaoin O'Donoghue as Renee, Ray Scannell as Manolo and Kevin Creedon as Jesus, with set and costumes by Maree Kearns and lighting design by Kevin Smith.
Neil Simon's The Odd Couple at The Everyman continues until this Saturday, August 17th, nightly at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at 33 and students are 9. Full details on www.everymancork.com
