New York, 1972. Michael Doyle, a young fireman, joins the IRA. Soon his Bronx apartment is overrun with a fast-quipping Irish killer; a beautiful woman he really mustn't fall in love with; and charismatic boss David Costello, the "Big Fellah" himself. Over three turbulent decades their lives veer from farce to deadly danger... Richard Bean's brilliantly original, funny and shocking play directed by Max Stafford-Clark was a huge critical hit in London last autumn. Finbar Lynch reprises his acclaimed performance in the title role.
Full of Richard Bean's trademark comedy and given a taut, fast paced production by Max Stafford Clark, the play is a gripping moral thriller that follows the unusual "family" over three decades as they respond to turbulent events an ocean away.

Finbar Lynch returns to the title role in THE BIG FELLAH, following its highly acclaimed 2010 tour and London run.

Finbar's work in Ireland includes Playboy of the Western World (Abbey, Dublin) Mass Appeal, Noises Off (Gaiety, Dublin); Juno and the Paycock (Milwaukee Rep); The Rivals, School for Scandal, Father & Sons, Absurd Person Singular, Les Liasons Dangerous, Peer Gynt ( Best Actor, Irish Theatre Awards) (Gate, Dublin).

Since Finbar moved Britain his credits include many productions with the RSC; Dancing at Lughnasa (Old Vic); A Doll's House (Peter Hall Company, Bath); As You Desire Me (West End); and Not About Nightingales (National Theatre/Broadway), for which he received a Tony nomination for Best Featured Actor.

Max Stafford-Clark founded Out of Joint and is former artistic director of the Royal Court, where his work included the premieres of Serious Money, Top Girls and Our Country's Good. His productions for Out of Joint include Talking to Terrorists, The Permanent Way, Shopping and F***ing and the world-touring, Africa-inspired Macbeth. He has also directed premieres of 4 plays by Sebastian Barry including the world-touring hit The Steward of Christendom.

Cast includes Yasmine Akram, Luke Griffin, Youssef Kerkour, Lisa Kerr, Finbar Lynch, David Ricardo-Pearce and David Rintoul.

Richard Bean was formerly a stand-up comedian and occupational psychologist. He is one of the UK's most popular and prolific playwrights. His controversial England People Very Nice for the National Theatre was nominated for Best Comedy at the Olivier Awards; Harvest, about a century in the life of a farming family, won Critics' Circle Best Play Award.

The Big Fellah is designed by Tim Shortall (Sweet Charity, nominated for a Tony Award for La Cage Aux Folles), with lighting design by Jason Taylor and sound design by Nick Manning.
