The Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) have recently announced the shortlist for this years Live Music Venue of the Year Awards with Roscommon Arts Centre securing a place on the shortlist for Connacht Live Venue of the Year. The annual awards celebrates live music venues across Ireland who work hard each week to bring live music to their area.

8,000 members and Roscommon Arts Centre was selected from the hundreds of live music venues across Ireland as one of five nominated for the Connacht section. Nomination for this award is an acknowledgment of the venues attributes including atmosphere, sound and lighting, staging, diversity of programming and most importantly, the staff and management and is an honour that Roscommon Arts Centre does not take lightly. Roscommon Arts Centre offers a year-long diversified programme covering all artforms including music, theatre, comedy, visual art, dance, classes & workshops and more. Performers are both homegrown and international and cover a spectrum of talents from amateur to professional. Now in its 11th year, the arts centre has enjoyed a very successful start to 2013 with 4 sell-out events in the first few weeks of the year. Through these awards IMRO is honouring those venues who have a creative outlook, who applaud and encourage originality and who have a strong staff and management team without which no venue would be possible to run.

Victor Finn CEO of IMRO: "A strong live music circuit is the lifeblood of a vibrant music industry. It is important that we acknowledge those venue owners and festivals promoters whose commitment, passion and support for live music throughout the country enables music creators to continue making the music we all enjoy".

The closing date for voting is 19th February with the awards being presented to a venue in each region of Dublin, Leinster (excluding Dublin), Connacht, Munster and Ulster (Donegal, Monaghan, Cavan) on 26th February. There will also be an award for IMRO Music Festival of the Year, IMRO Best Small Festival of the Year and an overall award for IMRO National Live Music Venue of the Year.
