John Carty Concert Held In The Galley Kitchen of Strokestown Park House

By: Aug. 03, 2011

On of Ireland's traditional musicians, John Carty will perform an intimate concert in the historic galley kitchen of Strokestown Park House on Thursday 11th August, 8pm. Organised as part of Roscommon Arts Centre's offsite summer programme this concert is unmissable for all trad music lovers and novices alike.

Well known for his prowess as a tenor banjo, tenor guitar and occasionally flute player, for this concert John will perform on his first love, the fiddle. He is very interested in the North Connacht traditional music style. Born in London, into a family steeped in their Irish history and heritage, Carty now lives in Boyle, County Roscommon.

In 2003 he was awarded the Irish Television station, TG4's Traditional Musician of the Year. The award places him in the elite company of previous winners such as Matt Molloy and Paddy Keenan. He also tours the UK, US and Ireland with re-formed super group, Patrick Street. The group includes legendary musicians Andy Irvine, Kevin Burke and Ged Foley. He has also appeared as a special guest with the Chieftains and De Danaan.

John's solo and group careers see him in demand and he has performed at all major festivals throughout Europe, North America and Australasia.

Tickets for this concert are available through Roscommon Arts Centre's box office on 090 6625824.
