FUTUREPROOF Opens Next Week at the Everyman

By: Jun. 08, 2017
The Everyman, in association with Cork Midsummer Festival and Project Arts Centre, present the Irish première of Futureproof, a magical play about identity and the capacities of the human spirit, during Cork Midsummer Festival, with previews June 13th to 15th, and opening Friday 16th, for 7 performances.

Futureproof reunites writer Lynda Radley and director Tom Creed, in their old stomping ground, Cork, to give this magical play a stunning new production in its Irish première, featuring an ensemble of Ireland's most accomplished actors: Gerard Byrne, Amy Conroy, Michael Glenn Murphy, Gillian McCarthy, Gina Moxley and Julie Sharkey. The initial cast announcement included London based actress, Ayoola Smart, as Serena the mermaid, however due to an unfortunate accident, Ayoola can no longer take the role and Karen McCartney has stepped in to her tail.

Futureproof , which had its award winning first run in Scotland at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2011, asks us to think about the struggle for self-hood and bodily autonomy, a theme which continues to have relevance in Ireland today.

See it in Ireland first during the Cork Midsummer Festival at the Everyman: Previews 8pm, Tuesday 13th to Thursday 15th June, show running from Friday 16th, Saturday 17th, Tuesday 20th to Saturday 24th June at 8pm; then the travelling weirdoes visit the Project Arts Centre from Tuesday 27th June - Saturday 1st July at 7.30pm. Limited number of tickets left, visit www.everymancork.com / www.projectartscentre.ie.
