Cerys Matthews Performs At The National Concert Hall as part of ESB LIVE 2010 11/13

Cerys Matthews, former lead singer with Welsh Band Catatonia visits Ireland for a unique concert at The National Concert Hall, Saturday 13 November 2010, 8pm. Star of ‘I'm a Celebrity Get Me out Of Here', the Welsh singer/songwriter is best known for her time with Catatonia and the hit song ‘Road Rage.' Throughout her successful career she has sung with fellow welsh icon Tom Jones and renowned Welsh tenor Bryn Terfel.

This one-off concert at The National Concert Hall will feature music from her extensive catalogue of songs both old and new. She tells her life story in music and witty asides through the songs she has collected dating back from her childhood in Swansea through her travels around the world.

2010 has been busy for Cerys. After the release of what is widely considered by media and music fans alike, to be the best album of her career in October 2009 entitled "Don't Look Down" she released a brand new album ‘TIR' on Rainbow City Records, Monday June 14th. This album, which she calls a labour of love, includes a duet with Bryn Terfel on the blacksmiths song Migldi Magldi. ‘TIR' features a mixture of songs, some from Victorian times, some hymns, some more obscure, and some huge great hulking classics of iconic stature like Bread of Heaven, Sosban Fach, Myfanwy and the National anthem.

Her most recent journey took her to America to make a documentary on a history of Female blues guitarists for Radio 4 which aired on June 22nd. She is also busy filming for a 5 part BBC 2 Music Programme to be screened in January 2011.

Cerys has also had an successful year in television, including writing and presenting a prime-time BBC2 documentary on Celtic poets, a documentary on Dorothy Squires, presenting the BBC Children In Need Show from Cardiff for the BBC TV, as well as completing the formation of her own TV and Radio Production Company, Rainbow City.

Apart from performing and recording hit songs and albums, Cerys Matthews is a popular presenter on her own radio programme ‘Cerys at 6' on BBC Radio 6 where she features live music from such diverse sources as The Kenyan Boys' Choir, The Hypnotic Brass ensemble to her coverage of the summer festivals including a live feed direct from Glastonbury Festival. Her work with radio outside of ‘Cerys at 6' has also seen her presenting a documentary on the history of the BBC's legendary Maida Vale Studios and also a documentary on Stax recording artists like Otis Redding for BBC Radio 2.

Concerts featured earlier this year as part of ESB LIVE included award winning, Irish singer/songwriter Julie Feeney in May, the Meitheal Traditional Orchestra in August and Irish band Dervish with guests Moya Brennan of Clannad with Cormac de Barra, Damien Dempsey and traditional duo Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill in September.
