The historic Woodie King Jr.'s New Federal Theatre has announced the launch of its Solo Performance Collective (SPC), a new initiative designed to support emerging artists in the exploration of solo performance work.
"We're thrilled to provide this unique platform for emerging solo performers," said Elizabeth Van Dyke, Producing Artistic Director of New Federal Theatre. "The Solo Performance Collective offers participants a chance to gain the necessary skills, mentorship, and exposure to embark on their artistic journeys with confidence and support."
The purpose of the Solo Performance Collective is to empower artists to develop solo projects, offering mentorship without the pressure to complete a fully polished performance. By providing resources and a structured environment, NFT aims to help participants build a solid foundation for future artistic growth and success.
Program Coordinator, Petron Brown, a playwright, performer, and NFT's Artistic Administrative Associate, will guide the Collective throughout the process.
The inaugural cohort of the Solo Performance Collective includes 11 talented artists:
Christian Prins Coen
Chrystal Campbell
Wadiah Brown
Aja Mahogany
Marcel Isaiah Martinez
Nadel Henville
Othello Pratt Jr.
