The Phoenix Theatre of Indianapolis has announced Next to Normal - book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt - as their next production. The Tony Award-winning and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Next to Normal will open Wednesday, January 30, and run through Sunday, February 24, 2013, on the Livia and Stephen Russell Stage.

"This is a musical that belongs at the Phoenix," stated Phoenix Theatre Producing Director Bryan Fonseca, who also directs Next to Normal. "The show is a contemporary musical that explores how one suburban household copes with crisis." With provocative lyrics and an electrifying pop-rock score of more than 30 original songs, Next to Normal shows how far two parents will go to keep themselves and their family's world intact.

ABOUT THE PLAY

Next to Normal is an intense, tender, at times hilarious and ultimately hopeful musical that won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, was nominated for 11 Tony Awards and won three, including Best Musical Score. Next to Normal tells the story of a family coming to terms with its tragic past and bravely facing its future by touching on themes not normally found in the genre, including a wife and mother struggling with bipolar disorder.
