The church ladies are back in the basement and they're cooking up even more fun at Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre this summer!

The appetite for the original Church Basement Ladies musical was so great in 2010 that Beef & Boards put its sequel, A Second Helping, on the menu for its current season. Vivian, Mavis, Karin and Beverly (no longer going by her middle name, Signe) return to the stage, along with Pastor Gunderson, to serve up more laughs from July 7 through Aug. 28.

The year is 1969 and change is all around - even for the ladies in the basement of their rural Minnesota Lutheran church. This time they'll face high school students, a Luther League Banquet and even a Vikings' Super Bowl Sunday. From the elderly matriarch of the kitchen to the young mom-to-be, these women find strength in each other as they deal with the joys and upheavals from below the "House of God!"

Beef & Boards welcomes back the entire original cast from last summer's smash hit, including Licia Watson as Vivian, Karen Pappas as Mavis, Katherine Proctor as Karin and Lisa Bark as Beverly, with Eddie Curry as Pastor Gunderson.

Like the original, A Second Helping was conceived and originally produced by Curt Wollan, who returns to Beef & Boards to direct this production. Wollan merged the talents of Drew Jansen, who wrote the original score and lyrics for Church Basement Ladies, with composer Dennis Curley, arranger of the stage version of Schoolhouse Rock Live! based on the popular TV series. Known for her comedy sketches and head writer for the Medora Musical, Greta Grosch collaborated with this music duo to develop the script.

There are 64 performances of Church Basement Ladies 2: A Second Helping scheduled in the intimate space of Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre. Tickets range from $36 to $59, and include Chef Odell Ward's dinner buffet, coffee, tea and lemonade. Discounts are available for children and groups of 20 or more. Parking is free.

For reservations, call the Beef & Boards Box Office at 317.872.9664. Box office hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays.
