BWW Review: DANCE KALEIDOSCOPE By Priya Venkataraman in Gurugram
Bharatnatyam is a dance form that is synonymous with Indian classical dance, across the globe. Maestros of this dance form say that Bharatnatyam is not just a dance form but a discipline that requires dedication, devotion and years of learning.
That explains why, the seeds of this tradition are sown early and often little children start learning the dance form and continue practicing it for years before they can say that they have mastered the form. With many nuances attached to its form it also requires an undulated attention over the years. Presenting this dance form which comes after years of dedication will be a group of students all trained under the watchful eyes of Bharatnatyam expert Priya Venkataraman.
This evening would feature almost fifty young student performers. The students with their agile dance moves would reflect changing patterns, sequences and a kaleidoscope of colours. Priya is known for her adherence to the classical repertoire' of Bharatanatayam and the show promises to be a mix of old and the new.
The yearly concert features young performers as well as students who are part of the dance company that tours nationally and internationally. Priya's students have won many dance competitions, scholarships from CCRT and awards for outstanding performances at dance festivals. Because of Priya's busy performance calendar, the school accepts students after an audition.
DANCE KALEIDOSCOPE as the name suggests is: beauty (kalos); seen in form and shape (eidos); to look at or examine (skopeo) and essentially means "observation of beautiful forms."
As thoughtful as the name of the evening is, the performance too promises to be a culmination of hours of hard work the little girls have put into perfecting this very beautiful dance form.
6.30pm on Saturday, July 27th, 2019 at the Shiv Nadar School Auditorium, DLF City, Phase 1, Block E, Pahari Road, Gurugram.
