Director Rima Das' Assamese film titled Village Rockstars has won a Golden Gateway Award in India Gold Category at the 19th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. The film has gone on to win many other laurels too including the Young Critics Choice Awards.

Earlier than this the movie Village Rockstars had its World Premiere at Toronto International Film Festival 2017 and it was the only Indian film to be selected from India in the competition category.

Village Rockstars is the tender story of a girl called Dhunu who sees abject poverty around her from the time that she was born. The girl learns to struggle for herself but her deplorable situation does not override her dreams. She dreams of forming a rock band and owning a guitar.

What makes the movie relatable is the fact that most of the characters are portrayed by real people and not professional actors. The film was also an official selection at Film Bazaar Recommends (at NFDC Film Bazaar 2016), 2017 Marche du Film (Cannes) Work-In-Progress, San Sebastian International Film Festival 2017 and 2oth International Children's Film Festival. It is also the closing film at the 2017 Dharamshala International Film Festival.
