'Vincent Victoria Presents' to Showcase Mothers Who Don't Know Best in SINS OF THE MOTHER, 5/10-5/13

Vincent Victoria Presents remounts the emotional drama SINS OF THE MOTHER at Midtown Art Center this Mother's Day weekend -- May 10, 2018 through May 13, 2018.

In general most people have fond memories of and warm feelings for their mother. It is also universally expected for us to love our mothers unconditionally. In the play SINS OF THE MOTHER we might forgive the characters if they didn't harbor the same feelings and share the same warm and fuzzies about their Mother Dearest.

SINS OF THE MOTHER, written by Dr. Tony Morinelli and Directed by Vincent Victoria, tells the story of three generations of African-American women dealing with the devastating effects that alcoholism and verbal and physical abuse have on their family. Set in 1956 in the row houses of Philadelphia, the show is a roller-coaster showcase of emotions for the actresses playing each role.

"What makes the show so compelling and devastating at the same time is that we see a mother place more value on the bottle and a relationship with a man than the welfare and love of her children. We also see her children seemingly 'inherit' those same dysfunctional traits and we witness a family that may be cursed for generations," says the director, adding that the play also has a "richness to the language that should thrill the lover of beautiful dialogue."

When the show was first performed in Houston in 2016, it received unanimous praise from the sold out audiences and critics and has all of the original actresses returning plus the addition of ensemble players to create a more full theatrical event.

Actors in the show include local favorites Rita Hughes, who played one of the Nina Simone's in the Ensemble Theatre's Simply Simone and Sonya Gooden last seen in "For Colored Girls Who Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Wasn't Enough" at Obsidian Theatre. Also appearing in the show are Sheronica Jones, Oni Muhammed,Terrie Donald, Shundraenika Ross and Ashley Hasker.

"Sins of the Mother" will be performed for one weekend only May 10-13th at Midtown Art Center 3414 La Branch at Holman. Showtimes are Thursday at 7:30 pm, Fri. and Sat. at 8 pm and also a industry performance at 3 pm and Sunday at 6 pm. Tickets are $20 online and $25 at the door and are available online available at banksbrothersproductions.com.
