The Texas Repertory Theatre Co., Houston's Uptown Classic Theatre, opens its 12th Anniversary "Triumphs and Treasures" Season with The Learned Ladies a classic comedy by French author Jean Baptiste Moliere, opening August 25th and running 4 performances a week through September 18th.

The Learned Ladies was the last of Moliere's great rhyming-couplet comedies and has the best of both comic worlds: it satirizes intellectual pretension and the vicissitudes of love. Targeting cultural snobbery,"The Learned Ladies mocks the fashion, current among upper-class ladies, for holding "salons" to discuss such "learned" matters as the arts, philosophy and science. Full of charm and wit, this comic tour-de-force features a cast of unforgettable and wacky characters hilariously scheming to find love and inspiration. This was an age when matters of the mind were, in theory, still the province of men; But these Learned Ladies have an agenda all their own, and will stop at nothing to become the greatest intellectuals in society. A hilarious satire from one of the theatre's greatest writers.

The Texas Repertory Theatre production of The Learned Ladies features Marylin Ocker, Jeffrey S. Lane, Lauren Dolk, Joanna Hubbard, Amanda Marie Parker, and Marcy Bannor under the direction of Scott Carr.
