A Latinx Theatre Company launches in Houston, Texas. TEATRX is a professional theatre company established to advance Latinx performance arts to be a vital and prominent part of the artistic identity of Houston by representing and supporting the Latinx community, its artists, and its stories.

"The Latinx population is not currently represented on Houston stages. That means that our stories, our history, our social issues are not being told and the few times that they are, they are not being told through our prospective."

The Latinx population of Houston is over 40% yet they are severely underrepresented on Houston's stages. Under the leadership of Houstonian Benito Vasquez, TEATRX, intends to produce and present work that creates awareness, starts a dialogue, and creates change on social issues that affect our community, and unite and develop a community of Latinx artists.

"Performance arts are an important part of a community's voice. The Houston community deserves to experience these stories through the words and bodies that have lived through it so that the audience can gain a different perspective of a number of issues. This is why TEATRX is not only important but vital to our communities."

TEATRX will start by producing a short play and short film festival in partnership with other latinx theatre artists on November 9th and 10th at Talento Bilingüe de Houston.
