Staged annually at The Grand as a residency by Missoula Children's Theatre, students from Kindergarten through high school are invited to audition for a role in this original musical adaptation. There are roles for 50-60 students in the production; however there is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast. Students interested in performing are invited to audition and must arrive by the 4:30 p.m. scheduled starting time and stay for the entire two-hour audition session. The first rehearsal begins immediately following the audition.

Rehearsals will be conducted every evening, April 2 - April 7,from 4:30pm to 8:30pm. The residency will culminate in performances scheduled on stage at The Grand at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday April 7, 2018 as a highlight of The 23rd Annual Grand Kids Festival. All students cast must be available for rehearsals and all scheduled performances.

Celebrating its 23rd year in bringing the arts to area families, The Grand Kids Festival will take place Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Postoffice Street from 20th to 23rd streets, in Galveston's beautiful downtown Cultural Arts District.

In addition to the performances of "Treasure Island," The Grand Kids Festival will feature family-friendly performances by student choirs, dance groups, bands and musicians along with professional family entertainment - including singer/author Andy Roo and the Rooniverse and storytellers - Sue Kuentz, Toni Simmons, Dru Woods, and Critterman.

The festival will also showcase hands-on arts and craft activities for kids of all ages, as well as offer opportunities to learn about quilting, glass blowing, Henna tattoos, marbleized paper, flower halos, ceramics and woodworking. Your children and grandchildren won't want to miss the giant tipi or the petting zoo, the chance to start their own art collection in the young collector's gallery (children only), create a sidewalk chalk masterpiece, or create one's own bubble wand and learn to blow giant bubbles. Be sure and come hungry, as a variety of popular food trucks will offer a great selection of fun food for the entire family to enjoy.
