Da Camera presents TIEMPO LIBRE, 11/12

By:

Da Camera's 2017-18 jazz series continues with three-time Grammy-nominated Afro-Caribbean ensemble Tiempo Libre at the University of Houston's Cullen Performance Hall on Friday, November 10, 2017, at 8 PM.

Considered one of the hottest Latin bands performing today, Tiempo Libre is celebrated for its sophisticated tropical music featuring an exhilarating mix of jazz harmonies, contemporary sound and seductive Latin rhythms. Since the group's formation in Miami in 2001, its members have been on a mission to share their heritage with as wide an audience as possible. Tiempo Libre draws upon classical training and their American experience to achieve a unique sound that reinterprets and reinvigorates the music of their native Cuba.

Da Camera's jazz series continues with "Songs of Freedom: A Tribute to Abbey Lincoln, Joni Mitchell and Nina Simone" featuring vocalists René Marie, Theo Bleckmann and Alicia Olatuja, on Friday, December 1, 2017.

Tickets for Tiempo Libre start at $37.50. Tickets are available by contacting Da Camera, 1402 Sul Ross, at 713-524-5050 or online at www.dacamera.com. Tickets for students and senior citizens are always half-price. $5 student rush tickets are available 30 minutes before the concert begins.

Da Camera of Houston's concerts feature small ensembles performing chamber music, jazz, early music and contemporary music. A vital institution in the world of chamber music, Da Camera is a source of innovative programming, notably Artistic and General Director Sarah Rothenberg's programs connecting chamber music with literature and the visual arts. Da Camera is nationally acclaimed for thought-provoking chamber music programming, as well as a jazz series with a unique balance between renowned performers and emerging artists.
