Christmas Cheer Spreads Onto A.D. Players' Stage
A.D. Players, one of Houston's oldest and largest resident theater companies, is pleased to announce their upcoming lineup of family-friendly Christmas entertainment at the Jeannette and L.M. George Theater.
"Our December performances of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and Rock Nativity are crowd-pleasing, family-friendly favorites that will entertain both the young and the young at heart," said A. D. Players Executive Director Jake Speck. "We invite our community to take time out of their busy holiday schedules, gather with loved ones and make new Christmas memories here at The George Theater."
Directed by Joey Watkins, the mainstage comedy The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (adapted from the young adult book of the same name by Barbara Robinson) returns to A.D. Players after many seasons, enjoying its first-ever run at The George Theater.
When the stand-in director of a local church Christmas pageant is faced with casting her show with the most inventively awful group of sibling's in the town's history, hilarity ensues. But even the notorious Herdman clan is not enough to derail The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, and the true spirit of Christmas shines through.
Rock Nativity by David Wood, presented for young audiences by A. D. Players Children's Theatre and directed by Braden Hunt, is a rock-styled musical re-telling of the traditional Christmas story from Luke's gospel. Expressed through 80s-inspired music and choreography, the ancient prophecy of a king for Israel comes true with the birth of the Messiah in Bethlehem.
The Jeannette and L.M. George Theater is located at 5420 Westheimer. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever runs December 1 - 23, 2017 (previews November 29th and 30th), and Rock Nativity runs December 6 - 23, 2018 (preview December 5th).
Tickets can be purchased by calling The George Theater Box Office at 713.526.2721 or visiting adplayers.org. Mainstage tickets range from $20-$70. Individual Children's Theatre tickets are $20, $10 for groups of ten or more, and $6 for Title I school groups of ten or more.
